The Shitter!

The 'shitter' pulsar ET

Here's my '86 Nissan Pulsar ET.

Standard engine bay Intercooled! This is my every day driver "shitter" if u like. It's a '86 N12 ET pulsar. With the fuel injected turbocharged 1.5l SOHC (E15ET) engine and 5 speed g/b it goes quite well in factory form, about the same as a auto VN V6! Bought for $900 with warped head, it cost another $500 to get the head sorted out but it had a new turbo, gear box, cv's, starter motor and alternator. Mechanically in top condition. Inside was also spotless but outside, the body could do with a clean up, but that just means it's great to rally :)

I've now fitted and intercooler, not the easiest in the cramped engine bay but it worked out well! The IC is mounted in place of the main thermo fan. I removed the air con as it was out of gas and didn't really need it so that made fitting a lot easier but it would have just fitted with the a/c, I just would have had to trim the grill... I rotated the turbo compressor housing to point down to a 90 deg bend to go around the radiator to the bottom of the intercooler. Then the pipe work snakes it's way from the top of the IC to the throttle body. Pipe work is made from 1.875" mild steel mandrel bends welded together.
The waste gate actuator is mounted on the compressor housing and since it was moved I had to remount the actuator. It wasn't as easy as drilling and tapping 2 new holes in the housing (had to do this anyway) cos the outlet is now where the actuator was... I had to make a new bracket and extend the actuator arm to move it away about 50mm.

I've boosted it to 12psi without a hint of detonation! I don't think it needs anymore power for a front wheel drive...

I'm club racing the pulsar while the VL is off the road, I thought it handled better but the standard suspension couldn't cut it on the track... I've done a motorkhana and a dirt khanacross in the pulsar and if I was a better driver I could have cleaned up! The motorkhana, a mate who also drove it was 2secs clear of the field, I was 3rd... And the khanacross I won the only track I had a good run on... It's an awesome little car, for low speed events anyway :)
